Last month we had the privilege of celebrating my nephew's 1st birthday. Yep, babies have birthdays all the time but this was a unique milestone for our family & for sweet little baby Jeremiah. He was born May 10, 2010 a full three months earlier than he was due at a tiny little 2 lbs 4.5 ounces. You better believe we counted that .5 ounce! :) After two months in the NICU, many prayers and much love from his mommy, daddy and big sister, he is doing fabulous!

I've had the blessing of photographing him every three months, starting with his NICU experience. I want to share a few favorites from our recent photo shoot for his first birthday, but if you'll scroll down, you'll also get a glimpse of how this tiny little blessing started his life. Of course, I have to share photos so you can rejoice with me and celebrate right alongside us!

J was a trooper, I tell ya! Oklahoma weather just couldn't decide if it was Spring yet or not and it gave us a lovely freezing day for our shoot. But we had a ball and lived it up despite the chill in the air.

Thanks, Jarrett - and his sweet mom Jenny, for an awesome experience celebrating Jarrett's senior year and graduation! I loved getting to be a little piece of the puzzle! :)

EEEK! I must share my excitement with my blog friends!

One of my fabulous friends, Miss Linsey Mastin, has a gift. Well, she actually has many gifts but today I'm just gonna talk about one. Her gift of writing. Witty. Funny. Intriguing. Light. Happy. Just plain fun. AND GUESS WHAT?!!! Her first book is being published & will be released nationwide on Tuesday, May 10th!

Oh and it gets better...it's already listed on Amazon.com for pre-orders. Check it out! You can even get a little preview since they feature the first chapter right there on the Amazon site.

And yep, see that little bio photo of the author? I had the privilege of spending the afternoon with Lins not too long ago just to capture a beautiful photo of her to be featured on her book. How cool is that?!

I am just so excited for her! Seriously like jumping, twirling, squeal-like-a-schoolgirl excited! :)

Now get on over there to Amazon and read that first chapter. And then you can finish the book in mid-May or grab it for your next flight or trip to the beach. Can't you just picture yourself lounging in the sun with a nice cool drink and Murder in Manolos right in your hot little hands?!

Oh and I have one more secret to share...it's the first in a series. Yep, I've had a peek at the ones to follow and let me tell ya, they are pretty fabulous, too! They just get better.

You are what you wear.

A little cliché? Perhaps. But when it comes to portrait photography, clothing plays a huge role in the success of the finished product.

Before we get going – let’s be clear what your clothing does NOT need to be:

Brand New I’m down with your favorite ripped jeans, retro band T’s, and worn converse - as long as you know how to rock them in your own fabulous style.
Fancy-Schmancy and Uber-Expensive Unless it’s your thing (If it’s really your thing, then by all means baby, bring on the bling). If you’re not normally a dress-up kind of person, don’t feel like you have to be one for your session.
Matching No need to focus on matching everything from the color of your fuchsia headbands to the stripes in your socks. In fact, I beg of you, please, please don’t. If you’re heart is set on everyone in white button downs and khaki pants, I’m probably not your girl.
Stressful No need to worry about each and every item, or fret about the suitability of each accessory. This is supposed to be fun. If you’re unsure – call me, and together, we’ll make sure you look fabulous. I promise.

I want you to be happy, thrilled, over the moon about your images, and I know that this is much more likely if we take the time and work together to help you choose clothing that fits these few simple rules:

Feels Good.

During your shoot you could be sitting in a pile on the grass having a tickle battle, rolling down a hill with your fiancé, throwing your kiddos in the air or climbing a tree. Wear clothing that lets you do all that (and more) comfortably.

As for the kids? Well…uncomfortable kids have a tendency to look…uncomfortable, and are often cranky to boot. Happy kids make for happy pictures.

Bottom Line: Don’t choose outfits that make any of you feel constrained, stiff, itchy, scratchy, like you’re dressed up for Halloween, or that leave you with a nagging worry that a button might pop if you bend the wrong way. Trust me.

Looks Good.

This can be tricky, looking good is totally subjective – right? If you’re not a fashionista in real life, you might want to pull in some extra help from a straight-talking friend or your trusty photographer (that would be me) who knows about such things and has plans in place to help.

Sometimes last year’s of-the-moment dress has already become hopelessly untrendy. Sometimes the current fashions just don’t look or feel like you. Sometimes outfits that look good in the mirror might not be ideally suited for photography.

Bottom Line: If you don’t feel fabulous-fierce-take-on-the-world gorgeous in your outfit, you’re not going to love, love, love the end result – and I’m all about you love, love, loving the end result.

Makes Sense.

Here’s where we pull it all together. It’s not just enough that everyone look good and feel good – you’ve gotta look and feel good together AND the outfits should fit with your location and the desired mood for your portraits.

Gulp. That seems like a lot, doesn’t it? (quick – revisit #4 in the top list, and remember, don’t stress).

Before you even begin figuring out your wardrobe, we’ll have talk about what you really want for your pictures, choose the perfect location and make sure you have an understanding about how that all comes together in the finished photograph. I’m with you every step of the way.

Bottom Line: It’s easier than it seems. Think twice about having Emma in a lace prom dress if you can’t get Tommy out of his spider man cape and favorite Star Wars pajama top. If we’re going to be running around in a park, you’ll likely not decide to wear your starched Sunday best. Hate the way stripes and plaids look together but Dad has his favorite stripped polo ready to go? Best steer mom away from her beloved family tartan. Easy-Peasy. [unless Mom is really attached to that tartan, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it).

If you’re still not certain, and you can’t decide between the yellow wrap dress with your red heels or your dark skinny jeans and purple belted shirt – I’ve got good news. You don’t have to decide. Bring lots of options. Hey – throw your whole wardrobe into the back of the car. When we get to the session we’ll wing it all with fabulous results. Trust me.

Now take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Imagine how blow-everyone-away-fabulous-ready-for-America’s-Next-Top-Model you’re all going to look in those pictures….

Can you see it yet? I totally can. You look INCREDIBLE!

I met up with the Pierson family to capture a few 2 year old shots of Daxton. You might remember Mr. D from his 1st birthday shoot here. We've become pretty good pals, if I do say so.

On this photo adventure, we took a little field trip a la wagon around Bricktown in downtown Oklahoma City and enjoyed the warm evening. When you're two, you sometimes have to have a little incentive to let a crazy camera girl to follow you around. This time I learned that Daxton's favorite candy is M&M's. Gotta love 'em!

It's been a nice little winter break around here at Rebekah Photography, catching up on business, planning, designing, etc. And I know! An extreme lack of blogging! I have so many sessions from the Christmas holidays that never were blogged but hopefully I can catch up in the next several days and share a few shots from some of the session.

But maybe, just maybe, you'll forgive me when you see the new website redesign! Go check it out!

Need a workout? Seriously...become a photographer! haha! I loved shooting the Pierson family's photo session last weekend but I forget how quick toddlers can be. You've gotta be ready and on the run. No wonder his parents are in such great shape! :) haha!

And look at this expression! Doesn't it just say...YOU CAN'T CATCH ME?! haha! I love it! So cute!

This family = die-hard OU fans so we met up on the OU campus to capture some fun images in their OU gear! Even little Daxton got into the fun with his cute little OU polo and his awesome little OU toy truck. Well, in this shot Kassidy's playing with it. heehee!

I LOVE this image and totally love it in black & white. It's just a quiet serene shot of two parents loving their little one and sharing the fun watching the ducks swim.

hello world. meet jeremiah. | oklahoma city newborn photographer

I'm so excited to introduce you to my newest little nephew and our miracle baby Jeremiah Patrick. Isn't he ADORABLE?!!!

Let me tell ya a little about baby J. He arrived in this world at a mere 27 weeks. Yep, you read that right. He was anxious to meet his mommy, daddy and big sister and came just about 3 months early. So so tiny at 2 lbs. 4.5 oz and only 14 inches long. He spent many weeks in the NICU at Children's Hospital with his mommy & daddy by his side and he flourished! He did so well and got to come home when he was about 2 months old. Now he's nearing 13 weeks old and is really packing it in at nearly 7 lbs! :) We finally did his "newborn" photo shoot on Friday. YAY!

For those of you who aren't aware, my father passed away Nov. 15th. It was very unexpected and sudden and boy, he would have LOVED to meet his 7th grandson. My brother and his wife chose to honor Dad by using his name as Jeremiah's middle name. So perfect. Jeremiah won't get to meet dad anytime soon but he'll hear stories and will carry his name. I just love that.

And really, isn't he CUTE?!

Have you ever had a friend that you can go weeks, months, even years without seeing but when you get together again, you can just pick right up where you left off? Well, that's my friendship with Andi.

We were best friends in junior high and high school and kept in touch somewhat after school but we've let the years go by too fast. It's been so many years since we've seen each other but when I went to visit her in TX recently it was just like the good ol' days. AND while I was there, I had the privilege of photographing her and her sweet little 3-year-old daughter Kennedy.

Kennedy is just full of personality and so easy-going. We hit it off and had much fun. :)

And Andi is just the best mom! She and Kennedy are just two little peas in a pod and have such a fun relationship.

Gotta love summers in Oklahoma. The beautiful sunshine. The lovely light. Oh and how about that humidity?

I met up with the Garretsons over the weekend and by golly, it was HOT! But they were AWESOME through it and were real troopers and so patient through the lovely Oklahoma heat.

You may remember the littlest one in the family. I had the honor of doing little O's newborn shoot as well. And now he's about to turn ONE!

summer time adventures.

So did you think I left town and totally forgot about photography for a bit?! Well kind of. But not quite! It's been a bit quiet around here because I've been traveling the world...at least part of it. I spent two weeks in June "plane, train & automobile"-ing across France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It was a fantastic trip with my oldest niece and two friends. 4 girls. 4 countries. 14 days. Too many memories to count.

Here are a few shots from the trip. I'll be sharing some of my other favorite photos throughout the month of July so stay tuned.

We had such a great time at their session this weekend. The girls were real troopers with the cool morning wind sweeping down the plains...literally!

Senior Session Take 2! Hayley's session was scheduled for Saturday afternoon but the clouds, cold wind and rain blew in so we postponed it until the next afternoon in hopes of some warmth and sunshine. And we were SO glad we did!

Sunday afternoon was absolutely gorgeous and we had the best time during the session! There were lots of laughs, a few surprise visits by neighborhood dogs and one silly senior girl.

One. handsome. little. guy.

Daxton is definitely the light of his parents' lives. How could you not be when you're just that cute?! I met up with little D and his mommy & daddy on a lovely Saturday afternoon. The weather was awesome and felt more like April than February...perfect for our day of one-year-old fun!

Good morning, guys! Hope everyone here in OKC is enjoying this *heat wave*! haha!

Somehow I skipped out on posting the previews of this excellent senior session on the blog! So welcome Molly who traveled in from Tennessee for the holidays and scheduled her senior photo session with me while visiting! We had a blast on our photo adventure around OKC along with her mom & cousin. With all the laughter and giggling going on at this shoot, I don't think downtown OKC will ever be the same! :)

Meet Aaron. Handsome. High School Senior. Mr. GQ, Zoolander and Karate Kid all in one! We had a blast shooting Aaron's senior photos in downtown Oklahoma City this weekend. Thankfully the rain held off just long enough for the shoot (yes, I got rained on on the way home, Glenda!) and we got some great shots!

If any of you know Aaron or his family then you know what an amazing blessing this boy has been to his parents. He's a great kid and I know God has great things in store for him!

These three sisters are not only absolutely adorable, they are also troopers! The day of their scheduled shoot, we woke up to pouring down rain. We pushed the shoot back one hour and lo and behold, we caught some beautiful light...and only a sprinkle or two!

This photo shoot was a gift to their parents from their fabulous nanny, Linsey. Isn't that sweet? I've been holding off on posting any on the blog because Linsey ordered an album to surprise the mom on her birthday so I've been waiting for the big reveal! :) Hope you LOVED it, Melissa!

Wow! Who knew 13-year-old girls were so GORGEOUS these days?! These two girls are absolutely beautiful and I had such a FUN time photographing them. It's a pretty cool story these girls have One lives here in Oklahoma and the other in Florida yet they remain the best of friends despite the miles. And one just happens to be my cute cousin who gets to spend her summers in OK. :) It was great to see these silly, giggly teenagers have a great time being models for a day.

So when you think of little boys, you often think of dirt, right?! They love to play in it. They love to get dirty. Well my new buddies H & H are your typical little dudes. We had a great time at our shoot on Monday. It was a high-energy, go-go-GO kind of shoot and I loved every minute! We had a few rock-throwing contests into the Oklahoma River, saw a few trains chuggin' by and of course, took some time to get some awesome shots for mom!

What do you get when you mix one beautiful Saturday morning with one gorgeous family?! A fabulous family photo shoot! E, H & girls met up with me in downtown OKC on Saturday morning for a fun little walkabout photo shoot. We strolled along and found some fun spots for the shoot. Big sister J & little sis C were absolute naturals! They did so awesome and were quite the troopers! Thanks, Heather, for inviting me to spend the morning with your fam! It was a blast! Just stopping in to say HELLO! Today is the last day of school around here and so the summer fun now begins! The weather is gorgeous and with all of our rain lately, the color outside is amazing! A great time for photos. I have a few openings left in June and am now booking July sessions.

little baby benjamin is growing up! here are a few shots from his 8 month photo shoot we did recently. you can see his newborn shoot and 4 month shoot here & here. he is such a sweet little one and just smiled away! we ventured out on a surprisingly warm day in january to this cool alley in tulsa & the lighting was gorgeous! :)
